Directorate of Research and Innovation
The Directorate of Research and Innovation was established in the year 2012 after complying with all the statutory provisions and other guidelines as issued by UGC. The Directorate of Research and Innovation is led by the Director, supported by the Assistant Directors, Research Officer and Administrative Consultant for the smooth functioning of the Directorate. The Directorate strictly follows all the regulations, provisions, and guidelines issued by the UGC from time to time and accordingly incorporates the same in its research ordinances for proper implementation.
The Directorate of Research and Innovation is continuously striving for streamlining the process of research work, exploring key research areas, and designing strategies for the accomplishment of research goals. The flagship programme of the Directorate is Ph.D. Programme which is offered in various disciplines of study. At present, the University is offering Ph.D. Programme in fourteen disciplines.
The Ph. D. Programme of the University is designed to accomplish local and regional aspirations, fulfill national obligations and honor the international commitment through high-quality research in various disciplines. Accordingly, the areas to be researched are identified on the basis of three broad areas these are; Local Aspirations, Open and Distance Education and Discipline-Specific Areas. The Directorate also facilitates the overall research activities across the different departments, faculty engagement, and research orientation programmes. The Directorate also ensures to augment research activities in multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary perspective in line with UGC and National Knowledge Commission. The Directorate is making all-around efforts including subscriptions to books, journals, statistical software and the likes for enriching research programmes.
In line with UGC, Directorate intends to help new students adjust to the new environment, inculcate in them the ethos, values, and culture of the institution, help them build bonds with other students and faculty members, and expose them to a sense of larger purpose and self-exploration. Besides this, Directorate is using technology extensively in its functioning; say conducting Coursework Classes, Regular Monitoring, Evaluation, Conducting Trainings, and the likes. To ensure high quality original research, the Directorate emphasizes upon a Module on Research and Publication ethics in course work. Further, Plagiarism Checking from UGC-INFLIBNET Plagiarism software is also provided to the Members of the Faculty and all the research scholars.
To provide exposure and excel understanding of the research scholars, the Directorate invites Experts from Academia and Industry to teach the skills to research and turning ideas into practice and identifying social and commercial opportunities. Further, Industry Personnel are also placed on the Planning Board and other Panels to make an impact on research, education, and practice. The Directorate also intends to support collaborative projects between researchers, university’s faculty and students who seek to innovate, in partnership with national and international organisations.
- To accomplish local and regional aspirations, fulfill national obligations and honor the international commitment through high-quality research in various disciplines.
- To survey and assess the impact of Uttarakhand Open University on the status of higher education
- To assess the student support services of university and to suggest measures for efficient functioning.
- To identify potential areas for newer programs which are more amenable to ODL.
- To conduct surveys to identify shadow regions where reach of the University is essential.
- To survey and assess the status of various job-oriented programs offered by Uttarakhand Open University.
- To organize Open and Distance Learning related seminars and workshops, and
- To offer consultancy on ODL related activities.
